You may have heard the word drivability in relation to your vehicle. In fact, you may have seen it on our website or heard it in our shop, since drivability evaluations are one of the services you can get at Randy's Auto Repair. Don't worry, it's not a trick word that means something you would never expect. In simplest terms, drivability ("drive ability") refers to a vehicle's ability to drive. This relates to both the driver's perception of the vehicle as well as how it handles/the actual responsiveness of the vehicle when braking, turning, accelerating, and so forth. As you can imagine, different drivers will have different expectations and standards for drivability. When manufacturers market a vehicle, they will highlight the numbers and performance capabilities they think drivers will be most interested in seeing.
On the mechanic and auto repair shop side, we look at multiple factors to determine a vehicle's drivability. At the very minimum, a vehicle should start when you turn the key or push the engine start button, depending on your make and model. When driving the vehicle, it's also important to consider how it performs. Is there a stutter when you start to accelerate after a stop? Does the check engine light or any other dashboard warning lights turn on while driving? Does the engine suddenly shut off? Does the vehicle lose power or misfire? How are the brakes? All of these are examples of drivability concerns.
If your vehicle isn't driving quite right or you're considering purchasing a vehicle but want to check its drivability, give us a call and we'll be happy to assist you. At the end of the day, you want your vehicle to be reliable and not a "will it or won't it get me to my destination today" test every time you get in the driver's seat.
Our team has been working on cars since 2002 and have experience with a wide range of makes and models. We can help you troubleshoot and learn more about the drivability of your vehicle.
